Several passengers were hurt after Qatar Airways flight suffered severe turbulence during a storm on Sunday.
The plane – which was coming from Washington to Doha – made emergency landing at a Portuguese military base in Azores Island.
“All the passengers were taken to a hotel in the evening and are due to depart on Monday morning,” an airbase spokesman was quoted as saying by AFP, adding that several people onboard had “suffered light injuries during the turbulence”.
One passenger reportedly complained of heart attack during the turbulence and he was hospitalized with some other passengers.
Airline Gazette had sought details from the Qatar Airways but the carrier had not yet responded to its questions.
Azad Essa, an Al Jazeera journalist who was on board, tweeted: “Some passengers bleeding after flung in the air, hitting the ceiling + landing in the aisles after plane suddenly lost altitude.”
