ISTANBUL: A Syrian man carrying a bomb was arrested on Monday, January 02, 2017 during security checks at Antalya Airport.
The man reportedly claimed that he has a bomb and was caught when he tried to pass his luggage through the airport’s X-ray machines during security checks.
Eyewitnesses told local media that the man has an affiliation with the terrorist organization. The suspect has been taken to a local police station for further interrogation.
Media reports claimed that the man was mentally unbalanced and had family problems and probably consumed drugs – marijuana.
Turkey’s Antalya Airport is the fifth busiest in Europe with 27 million people passing through it. It is located 13km to north east of the southern Turkish city with the area being a major tourist attraction for holidaymakers.
A bomb went off on New Year Eve at a nightclub in Turkey, killing dozens of people. Terrorist group Daesh claimed the responsibility for the bombing.
