Flying High: Two new airlines to be launched in Cyprus in March


CYPRUS: Two new airlines will take off in Cyprus from March 2017 as they have reached advanced stage of their authorization procedure, Time Out Cyprus reported.

Cyprus Airways and Orion Airways are both expected to get their final authorisation to start flights, with the former having already received its first Airbus A319 aircraft.

Orion Airways is also expected to receive its first aircraft soon, following official approval.

Cyprus Airways will be based at Larnaca International Airport and operate regular flights to European destinations such as Britain, Greece, Russia and the Middle East, according to reports.

Initially, two A319 aircraft will be used by the airline upon launch, with the aim to gradually acquire additional aircraft.

Orion Airways, operating as a low-cost airline, is expected to initially begin operating flights to Greece and the UK, before adding France, Austria and Israel to its route network.

According to Time Out Cyprus, “Orion Airways will aim to link Eastern Europe to the Middle East, Asia and Europe.”
