JAKARTA: A young man, 25, allegedly conned 50 airhostesses after donning pilot’s uniform to woo and date with the bachelor stewardesses in Indonesia.
Rido Roeslan reportedly worn a captain’s uniform like Leonardo Dicaprio in movie “Catch Me If You Can” and then allegedly trawled airports and social media for pretty airhostesses.
He reportedly dated with dozens of single airhostesses and then asked for 300 pounds, the British media reported.
The young Romeo was arrested while trying to steal an iPhone and reportedly have confessed to his other alleged crimes during interrogation.
The alleged crime mirrors the film “Catch Me If You Can”, in which Leonardo Di Caprio plays Frank Abagnale, who poses as a Pan American World Airways pilot to scam money.
Indonesia’s Police Chief Commissioner Zainal Azhab said the accused had conned up to 50 women out of a total of £12,000 (US$14,757), the Daily Mirror reported.
Azhab said the accused used to tell victims that he was not at work and could go to see them but had to borrow some money. After getting the money, Roeslan would disappear and changed his mobile phone number.
Many victims were working for airlines at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Indonesian capital of Jakarta.
