Boeing awarded $170m Air Force One contract… Trump wants to cancel order

The US President-elect Donald Trump has criticized the Boeing deal for Air Force One which is used for the American President.

“Boeing is building a brand new 747 Air Force One for future presidents, but costs are out of control, more than $4 billion. Cancel order!,” Trump tweeted.

The US plane maker earlier announced that it had been awarded $170-million contract for Air Force One.

“We are currently under contract for $170 million to help determine the capabilities of these complex military aircraft that serve the unique requirements of the President of the United States. We look forward to working with the U.S. Air Force on subsequent phases of the program allowing us to deliver the best planes for the President at the best value for the American taxpayer,” the plane manufacturer said in a statement on its website on Tuesday.

The US Government estimated in March 2016 that the entire programme for Air Force One will cost nearly $3.2 billion from 2010 to 2020.

According to Wikipedia, Air Force One is the official air traffic control call sign for a United States Air Force aircraft carrying the President of the United States. In common parlance the term describes those Air Force aircraft designed, built, and used to transport the president. The presidential aircraft is a prominent symbol of the American presidency and its power.
